4 Awesome Hackathons on the South Coast

There are some great hackathons that have popped up along the South Coast in the last couple of years. The idea of a hackathon, for those who aren’t aware, is that large numbers of techies and creatives gather to hack together things in a short space of time. Some are competitive, some are competitive, and these are a few along the South Coast which are worth checking out.
A hackathon in Southampton, a non competitive hack which is free of charge. #hacksoton describe themselves as ‘A hackday for everyone. Share knowledge, play with cool stuff and make new friends.’ #hacksoton takes place in Central Hall in Southampton, where hackers are invited to bring along their toys and make cool stuff. They provide the food and drink, and you bring your kit!

PubHack is a 10 hour digital hackathon that takes place in a pub. Teams of up to 4 compete for awards and create something based on a theme. Hackers have 10 hours to make something, whether it’s silly, serious or downright crazy, they present at the end. Food, beer and lot’s of freebies are on offer. It’s organised by me so I’m a little biased, but it’s tense, it’s beer fuelled, it’s silly and a lot of fun.

hackbmth invites creatives to get together for a day and see what can be made! It’s a chance to try something new, inspire each other and play with technology. It’s non-competitive and free for everyone. Sometimes there’s a theme, sometimes there’s a common goal or problem to be solved, but most of the time it’s a free for all, fun day of playing around with ideas.
